The gateway to London Heathrow Airport is recently grabbing massive headlines all over the globe, for all negative reasons though. The security staff in the Unite Union Heathrow have gone on a 10-day strike over pay issues.

The strike has eye-gobbled everyone, as it is posing a serious threat of massive disruption at the UK’s biggest airport at the beginning of the Easter holidays. Heathrow Administration released an official statement on Friday stating that operations on the terminal are normal.

This ongoing strike involves security personnel at terminal 5, which is the prime spot for British Flag carrier British Airways and cargo checks. Unite is blaming the airport for real terms wage cute.

Heathrow Administration has stated that they offered a 10% hike in wages on 1 January, and apart from this they even proposed to pay a lump sum payment of more than £1000.

The Airport authorities are claiming that operations on the terminal are normal, while British Airways cancelled around 70 flights on Friday, which also include cancellations due to bad weather. Many flights have also been removed from the schedule, amid the Heathrow airport strike.

Heathrow Chief Executive John Holland recently spoke to the BBC and addressed this issue, he stated many security personnel chose to work on Friday and many agency security personnel were called to help. He concluded his statement by saying the operations are going normally in the Airport.

According to some reports, the coming few days are expected to be busy due to Easter and thus Heathrow authorities have asked airlines to stop selling tickets and allow passengers to reschedule their travel dates.

Reports are further claiming that British Airways has cancelled 300 flights pre-emptively and Virgin Atlantic have stated that they are reducing their new ticket sales. Virgin Atlantic has also introduced a new flexible policy.
